The first two to four feedings the calves only get colostrum. When we start them on milk replacer, we mix one tablespoon of Tonisity Rum-Xm with milk replacer, feeding them twice a day, for two or three days. As you know baby calves tend to scour, especially when drinking milk replacer. After about day two or three their systems seem to tolerate the milk replacer. If we still see issues with scours, we continue until their faeces looks more normal, but usually the two-to-three-day regime works well for us.

We used Rum-Xm in milk replacer for 10 days in half of our newly born kids. At 3 months of age, the Rum-Xm kids were 1.7 kg heavier than the Control kids. Considering the kids were born between 2 and 2.5 kg, this is a good amount of extra weight. Good intake, the kids looked healthier, good results overall, we will continue to use Rum-Xm in our herd.

By using Tonisity Rum-X (Rum-X) on our farm, we were impressed by how rapidly calves consume it especially since consumption can be a challenge for some young calves. We applied Rum-X initially on our fall-behind calves. Within a few weeks of finishing the 10-day protocol they were at the same weight as the rest of the calves, and we were able to reintroduce them into the herd. Having seen such good results, we will be using Rum-X in the entire herd.

In post-weaning, their start has been much better, and they have showed a greater appetite. In general, they are more homogeneous, and I see less fall behinds. With the first batches, I recorded 8 kg extra live weight for the same age at the end of the fattening period, when compared to previous batches that did not receive Tonisity Px. “The piglets received Tonisity Px in the first week of life, between Days 2 to 8, and the week before weaning, as a gruel with feed. This product is very easy to prepare and distribute. I generally mix the powder with water at about 22-24 °C. The product tends to be palatable and well consumed, and after 3 days the piglets actually wait for me to give it.
