French Study | Tonisity Px Reduces Pig Mortality, Fall-Behinds and Improves Growth

A recent study conducted on a 450-sow farm in France investigated the role of Tonisity Px. The trial evaluated its effectiveness in reducing pig mortality, boosting growth and lowering fall-behinds. Administered from days two to eight of life and for three days before and after weaning, Tonisity Px was shown to significantly impact key performance indicators. The findings confirm that

Tonisity Px reduces pig mortality, fall-behinds and improves growth

demonstrating notable reductions in mortality (both pre-weaning and in nursery), enhanced weight (both pre-weaning and in nursery) and decreased fall-behinds.

Key Findings from the Study

Significant Growth Improvements

The study revealed substantial growth benefits associated with Tonisity Px. Piglets receiving Tonisity Px showed a notable increase in weaning weight, averaging 6.5 kg compared to 5.76 kg in the control group—a difference of 740 g. At the end of the nursery phase, piglets supplemented with Tonisity Px weighed 22.4 kg, outpacing the control group's average of 21.3 kg by 1,090 g.

Enhanced Daily Gain

Tonisity Px also positively influenced average daily gain (ADG). Pre-weaning ADG improved by 30 g/day in the Tonisity Px group (211 g/day) compared to the control group (181 g/day). Post-weaning, piglets receiving Tonisity Px gained 12 g/day more than the control group (451 g/day vs. 439 g/day).

Reduced Mortality Rates

The study demonstrated a reduction in mortality rates with Tonisity Px. Pre-weaning mortality was lowered by 25% in the Tonisity Px group (9.2%) compared to the control group (12.3%). In the nursery phase, mortality rates saw a significant reduction of 36%, with 2.3% in the Tonisity Px group versus 3.7% in controls.

Decrease in Fall-Behinds

Tonisity Px supplementation also led to a marked reduction in fall-behind piglets. The proportion of fall-behind piglets decreased by 59% in the Tonisity Px group, with only 9.1% falling behind compared to 22.2% in the control group.

Producer Benefits

For a farm that produces approximately 16,300 piglets annually, Tonisity Px offers significant benefits:

  • 710 additional piglets due to reduced mortality

  • 2,347 more full-value piglets by decreasing fall-behinds

  • 15,000 kg extra weight at the end of the nursery phase, contributing to increased revenue

Conclusion

The French farm study highlights the effectiveness of Tonisity Px in enhancing piglet growth and health. Tonisity Px significantly reduces mortality, lowers fall-behinds and improves growth metrics. These benefits demonstrate Tonisity Px as a valuable tool for improving productivity and profitability in modern swine production and are in line with results from previous studies.
